Is it necessary to use an ActiveX control to use OpenGL in Visual C++?

Or is there no such thing?

My desire is to have a 3D area surrounded by controls such as buttons, text-entry, sliders. Is it necessary to use an ActiveX control to use OpenGL in Visual C++?
I have used Visual C++ with openGL using the GLUT libraries. I do not think that any activeX was used. You might want to check out GLUT (but sometimes libraries use things you do not know about, but I think there was no activeX). Good luck!
