http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us is the url for the page I would like to view on my desktop computer, but I do not have the activeX control. If anyone knows what the name of the control is, I would be most appreciative. What activeX control is required to view the Microsoft Update page?
That ActiveX control should be automatically downloaded to your machine when you access the page if you're using Internet Explorer. Other browsers, Firefox in particular, generally don't support ActiveX.
Also, make sure you have ActiveX downloads turned on:
1. Right-click on the Internet Explorer icon and click Properties, or, from within Internet Explorer, click the Tools-%26gt;Internet Options menu item.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Click the Trusted Sites icon.
4. Click the Sites button.
5. Add these sites to the list. http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://update.microsoft.com
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click the Custom Level button
8. I generally have things under ActiveX controls enabled with the exception of ';Download unsigned ActiveX controls'; and ';Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe';.
9. Click OK.
Hope that helps
